The flood recovery rental support payment assists NSW residents who are unable to live in their homes due to storms and floods in February and March 2022 and/or June and July 2022.
The one-time payment of up to $18,000 will be used to assist pay for short-term lodging of 14 nights or more booked on or after:
- 22 February 2022, for people impacted by the February and March 2022 storms and floods
- 27 June 2022, for people impacted by the June and July 2022 storms and floods.
How much can you get
The payment is calculated based on the number of persons who typically live in your home and require short-term lodging:
- 1 person – $6,000
- 2 people – $7,200
- 3 people – $9,200
- 4 people – $12,400
- 5 people – $15,200
- 6 people – $18,000
The cost will increase by $2,800 for each additional person in your family if you have more than 6 members.
When can you apply for the NSW Flood Support?
Applications for flood support are open and the deadline for applications is 31 December, 2022.
Who can apply for the NSW Flood Support?
The Flood Support payment is available to those who were directly affected by the storms and flooding in February and March 2022 and/or June and July 2022.
Note:
- February and March 2022 storms and floods: NSW residents in highly impacted suburbs who have been impacted by this event may be eligible for a payment.
- June and July 2022 storms and floods: NSW residents in a defined disaster area (AGRN 1025) who have been impacted by this event may be eligible for a payment.
You may be eligible to apply for flood support If:
- you’re a NSW resident aged 18 or over,
- the damaged property is in a highly impacted suburb,
- the damaged property is your primary residence and,
- you’re unable to claim temporary accommodation costs under an insurance policy or your insurance does not cover the full length of your accommodation needs.
If the damage occurred during the February and March 2022 storms and floods your property must be in a highly impacted suburb.
If the damage occurred during the June and July 2022 storms and floods your property must be in a defined disaster area (AGRN 1025).
You are not eligible to apply if:
- The damaged home is an investment property that you do not live in, or
- you are able to lodge a claim for temporary housing under an insurance policy.
What do you need to apply?
You will need to:
- create a MyServiceNSW account when you start your application.
- your name, phone number, and email address
- your identity documents
- Photos of the damage in your property
- Provide the number of persons in your home who require temporary housing
- evidence of your temporary lodging reservation (if you have 6 or more people in your household)
- details of your Australian bank account for payment
February and March 2022 storms and floods
For this event, you will also need one document issued that shows the address of the impacted property:
- council rates notice (if you own and live in the property)
- copy of the current rental agreement (if you rent the property – executed on or prior to 22 February 2022)
- utility bill (issued from 1 January 2022 to 30 April 2022)
- current vehicle registration notice
- letter from Centrelink, the Australian Tax Office, Service NSW or Transport for NSW (issued 22 April 2021 to 22 February 2022).
June and July 2022 storms and floods
For this event, you will also need one document issued that shows the address of the impacted property:
- council rates notice (if you own and live in the property)
- copy of the current rental agreement (if you rent the property – executed on or prior to 27 June 2022)
- utility bill (issued from 1 May 2022 to 31 August 2022)
- current vehicle registration notice
- letter from Centrelink, the Australian Tax Office, Service NSW or Transport for NSW (issued 27 August 2021 to 27 June 2022).
Proof of identity will be required. You can include any 2 of the following:
- Australian driver license
- Medicare card
- Australian passport
- Australian birth certificate
- Australian travel visa
- Australian citizenship certificate
- Australian certificate of registration by descent
- Australian ImmiCard
Note: If your household has previously received a flood recovery rental support payment, you may be required to supply proof of the associated temporary accommodation booking.
In case of an Audit
The ATO may audit you in the future. For that reason, you will need to keep the evidence of the assistance provided under the payment for one year after the closing day.
Evidence of short-term accommodation: It must include your name, the location of the accommodation, the number of individuals for whom the reservation is made, the amount owed, and the accommodation’s date range.
How to apply for Flood Support

To Apply online
- To apply online, click the ‘Apply online‘ button.
- Create a MyServiceNSW Account or log in.
- Follow the instructions in the portal.
You’ll get an email confirmation with an application reference number after you submit your application. Please check your junk mail folder if you do not receive this email within 5 minutes of submitting your application.
Your application will be reviewed once it has been received. If ServiceNSW needs more information to support your application, they will contact you.
How long do I need to wait before receiving the Flood Support payment?
If your application is granted, a payment will be made to the bank account you specify within 5 business days.
